BIOETHICS:  A field of ethical enquiry that examines ethical issues and dilemmas arising from health, health care, and research involving humans (World Health Organization).

HEALTH RESEARCH:  The development of knowledge with the aim of understanding health challenges and mounting an improved response to them (World Health Organization).

Group of individuals who undertake the ethical review of research protocols involving humans, applying agreed ethical principles; also known as ethical review board [ERB], ethical review committee [ERC], human research ethics committee; [HREC], institutional review board [IRB] (World Health Organization).
