On April 22, 2015, the first cohort of Trainees in St Lucia to complete Level I of the Caribbean Regional Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (CR-FELTP) celebrated their graduation with a ceremony at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay, St Lucia.

Nine graduates were recognized for their successful completion of the programme. With the dedicated support of Dr Sharon Belmar-George, the St Lucia FELTP Country Coordinator, and mentors and trainers from the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services & Gender Relations, Trainees from several public health program areas participated in face-to-face training modules and on-the job projects to demonstrate their competencies in applied epidemiology.

Congratulations to the St Lucia FELTP Level I, Cohort 1 graduates! Ms. Magdalena Alexander, Mrs. Marilene Berthier, Ms. Marcia Dupre, Dr. Andre Edward, Mr. Phil Leon, Mrs. Natasha Lloyd-Felix, Ms. Shana Marius, Ms. Delia Peters and Ms. Sementha Tisson.

CARPHA and the St. Lucia Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services & Gender Relations launched the Caribbean Regional Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (CR-FELTP) in September 2014. St Lucia is among the first of eleven countries to implement their own national Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme in 2014-2015.

The CR-FELTP training curriculum has been developed by the CARPHA team, in collaboration with many subject matter experts from the Caribbean region, including partners from PAHO, University of West Indies, and the U.S. CDC. Each country participating in the CR-FELTP uses a common curriculum that addresses core public health competencies, while the field projects that Trainees undertake in their work sites are tailored to the public health priorities of their host organizations.
