Summary: September 29, 2020 - CARPHA COVID-19 Health Rounds Webinar 4 "Laboratory Diagnostics and Patient Immunity" was well attended by national laboratory directors, regional laboratory experts and laboratory professionals from both the public and private sector. During his presentation, Dr. Gabriel Gonzalez-Escobar, Head, Laboratory Services and Networks, CARPHA Medical Microbiology Laboratory, discussed the various diagnostic platforms including antigen-based rapid tests, an update on serological assays and guidance on the use of the gold standard molecular methods (Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR). A total of one hundred and thirteen (113) participants from seventeen (17) CMS joined the discussion on what is known about patient immunity, ongoing research into the link between asymptomatic presentation and immunity, and the most updated technical guidance available from the WHO, PAHO and CARPHA. An overview of CARPHA's Guidance on the Selection and Evaluation of Diagnostic Kits was given to attendees as a tool that can be used to evaluate existing and new test kits for COVID-19 diagnosis prior to purchase. Summary: Third in the CARPHA COVID-19 Health Rounds Webinar Series was “Mosquito Borne Disease Management during the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar was well received by over 230 participants from 24 countries, 18 of which were CARPHA Member States. Participants included Ministry of Health workers from various departments including environmental health, public health, vector control, national laboratories, as well as, universities, NGOs and the private sector. Summary: The second CARPHA COVID-19 Health Rounds webinar “Managing Evacuation Shelters During the COVID-19 Pandemic” was well received by over 120 participants from 20 countries, 17 of which were CARPHA Member States. Participants were Ministry of Health workers, disaster management coordinators, shelter managers, social workers, community development officers, health inspectors, and many others that work in disaster management and health fields. Summary: As part of the COVID-19 Task Force “Caribbean Tourism Health Safety Training Series, CARPHA’s Tourism and Health Program conducted a training “COVID-19 Health Guidelines for Reopening Hospitality Sector – Accommodations & Tourism Health Information System (THiS) Overview.” A total of 256 persons were trained from twenty-five (25) countries, consisting of Eight-four (84) Hotels, Villas and Guest houses, One (1) Travel Agency, Fifteen (15) Tour companies, Ten (10) Tourism Authority and Institutions, Three (3) Taxi associations, and Four (4) Non-Tourisms related Organizations. Summary: As part of the CARPHA COVID-19 Health Rounds, CARPHA’s Tourism and Health Program in collaboration with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, conducted a training entitled “COVID 19 Proactive Health Guidelines for Hospitality (tourism 101) and The Tourism and Health information system (THIS)” presented to the hospitality sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on October 20th 2020. A total of 79 persons from the accommodation sector participated in training session. Certificates of participation will be provided for individuals that attended the session.
