CARPHA to Chair International Group Seeking to Strengthen Vector Control Programmes
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. February 14, 2016. Dr. Karen Polson Edwards, Assistant Director, Surveillance, Disease Prevention and Control at the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has been appointed chair of the newly formed Technical Advisory Group on Public Health Entomology.
The Advisory Group has been established to look at ways to strengthen vector control programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, including specific measures for Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits Zika, dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.
The group includes experts in entomology, vector control, neglected diseases, epidemiology, insecticide resistance management and related fields and will advise Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on ways to strengthen surveillance, control and elimination of vector-borne diseases.
