Strengthening Health Systems in CARICOM to address Infectious Diseases

Overall Objective/Impact:

The objective of the Project is to strengthen the capacities of the human resources, laboratory systems and networks in the health sectors of CARICOM Member States to accurately detect, characterize, and treat infectious diseases

Specific Objective(s)/Outcome(s):

CARPHA Member States are effectively applying competencies; adopting policies, standards and guidelines; improving access to essential medicines and essential laboratory services.
CARPHA's laboratory equipped to deal with surges in testing requirements
CARPHA Member States have improved public health capacity to support regional health security, environmental health and tourism and health programmes in meeting targets of the Agenda 2030

Expected Results/Outputs:

A suite of targeted public health programmes to develop the human resource capacity of Member States in applied public health competencies effectively delivered.
Regional laboratory systems and network strengthened through the Caribbean Public Health Network (CARIPHLN) to safely and accurately detect and characterize pathogens, environmental threats, and ensure pharmacovigilance through modern, secure, affordable and appropriate diagnostic tests or devices.
Capability enhanced to test the increased number of samples received from Member States.
CARPHA Member States trained in the correct protocols in the shipping of infectious substances and in biosafety principles and practices in laboratories.
CARPHA Member States enabled to prevent , respond to, and manage public health emergencies through a coordinated approach to the implementation of the Caribbean Region Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) Roadmap for the Caribbean Region.
