Injuries and Violence in the Caribbean: how big is the problem?

In order to quantify and characterize deaths from injuries and violence in the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean the most recent year of available national cause-of-death data (as at December 2014) for each country for the period 2007-2013 was selected from the CARPHA regional mortality database. An analysis of regional causes of deaths by age and gender was completed. The crude injury death rate for each country, by gender, was also calculated followed by a descriptive analysis of the type of injuries contributing to death in each country.

Non-Communicable Disease mortality trends in 20 CARICOM countries and territories

As part of the evaluation of the 2007 Port of Spain Declaration: Uniting to stop the epidemic of chronic non-communicable disease, trends in non-communicable disease mortality from 20 CARICOM countries and territories were investigated. The following select NCDs were analysed:

*Neoplasms, *Diabetes, *Ischaemic heart disease, *Cerebrovascular disease, *Chronic lower respiratory disorders and *External causes of injuries
