Dissemination of COVID-19 Results

CARPHA’s Medical Microbiology Laboratory, as the regional reference laboratory tests suspected COVID-19 cases for 18 of its Member States. Samples can only be sent to CARPHA from the designated national public health laboratory in a country. Once samples are received, CARPHA will produce the results within 24-48 hours.

The Caribbean Public Health Agency’s Medical Microbiology Laboratory (CMML) does not participate in any process of verification or validation of tests with any private laboratories in the Caribbean, nor has it endorsed any tests from any private laboratory, manufacturer or distributor.

CARPHA has upgraded the risk of transmission of COVID-19 to the Caribbean Region to Very High. The revised risk level is based on international risk assessment guidelines, particularly in keeping with risk assessment for MERS-COV and pandemic influenza.
