Belize is a unique tourism destination with an extremely colourful history. The only English speaking country in Central America with historical ties to former British colonies in the Caribbean, Belize has an area of 8,867 square miles with approximately 387,879 inhabitants.
Although small in size, the country has many attributes. Its abundance of natural resources, effervescent culture, the intoxicating hospitality of its citizens and rich history combine to offer the adventure explorer that perfect vacation in a tropical setting.
Like its people, the country’s attractions are varied and unique. At the end of 2016, Belize recorded the highest number of overnight arrivals in 20 years with a 13% increase over the previous year. The cruise sector also exceeded the 1 million mark for the first time in 2016, making it another major landmark achievement for the country.
The increasing number of tourist arrivals into the country results in greater job opportunities for Belizeans, which form the backbone of our dynamic tourism industry.
The latest available statistics revealed that total visitor exports accounted for approximately 38% of Belize’s exports of goods, services and income in 2016, while the number of Active Insured Persons working within the Tourism Industry in 2016 was 19,396 or 1 in every 8 persons employed are in Belize’s Tourism.
